STEVE JOHNSON
BASS GUITAR
Before focusing mostly on the bass about 15 years ago, Steve Johnson started out in music at a young age. From a family of singers and piano/clarinet/saxophone players, Steve sang in both the school and church choirs in early elementary school, often performing solos and duets even as a youngster. Around age 10 he took some piano and guitar lessons, and in middle school started playing trumpet and also sang in school musicals. In high school, although still active in sports, he continued playing trumpet in concert, pep, and marching band, as well as performing in the school’s Stage Jazz Band, which played out at area venues. Steve performed in a few school musicals in high school and also played trumpet in a jazz/fusion type band named D.R.E.J.L.I.C. In college, Steve was half of an acoustic guitar-playing duo “Steves” who specialized in two-part harmony. Passing on his love of music to his children, Steve began his love of playing bass when he started to accompany their guitar playing, keyboards, and vocals. About 9 years ago he co-founded the Blues-Rock band Faded Blue which is still an ongoing project that plays in the West Michigan area. Steve can sometimes be seen filling in on bass for other West Michigan bands and now he is loving being a part of the dynamic rhythm section for the rocking Kelly Quinn Blues Experience!
